The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. A few months later she devised a process that didn't make the subject onto canvas in a flat image. The subject is a mirror of its own, with the canvas carrying an interpretation by painting of the object. This is especially true when it's a live item or something perishable, such as fruit or people. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only work of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Trompe l'oeil is achieved through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional picture. Meade often incorporates models painted into the environment around them. It allows them to be part of the world she has created. The lines between performance, photography, and installation is thus broken.
