Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled frequently with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
